Lyle L. Price, 74, of Kimberling City, MO (formerly of Macon) passed away on July 19, 2011 after a courageous battle with cancer surrounded by his loving family at his side.
Lyle was born on August 16, 1936 in Decatur, IL, the son of Ralph and Ruth (Jacobs) Price. Lyle lived most of his life on the family farm outside of Macon but also lived 20 years in Branson, MO. Lyle married Sandra K. Aukamp (Pritts) on December 4, 1960 and they had four children. Lyle later married Dorothy L. Denning (Kilzer), his wife of 28 years, on June 18, 1983.
Lyle graduated from Macon High School in 1954. Lyle had several careers, reinventing himself each time. He farmed with his dad, Ralph Price, on the family farm until 1971. At that time, he was offered a job at Peoples Bank of Macon and went on to be the President for nearly 14 years. In 1985, Lyle and Dorothy purchased Uncle John’s Inn and relocated to Branson, MO. They owned and operated the motel until 1993 at which time Lyle and Dorothy relocated back to Decatur, IL where Lyle finished his career at Menards. Lyle and Dorothy retired back to Branson in 2002 to enjoy the beauty of the hills.
Lyle enjoyed working with his hands. He worked in his wood shop designing and building wooden toys for his grandchildren as well as decorative items for his home. However, the greatest pastime of his life was music. In his 20’s, he was active in the Decatur barbershop chapter, singing in various quartets including the Yachtsmen and occasionally arranging music for the Sweet Adeline chapter. In his 30’s and 40’s, he directed the choir at the Elwin United Methodist church. In retirement, he enjoyed all the music the Branson, MO area had to offer. As an avid piano and keyboard player for over 50 years, Lyle played and recorded music, as he put it, for “his own amazement”.
Lyle is survived by his wife Dorothy; children: Jeff Price (Brenda) of Rockford, IL., Brad Price (Susie) of Hartselle, AL., Pam Hoffer (Brian) of Scottsdale, AZ., Doug Price (Lisa) of Aledo, IL; step children Allen Kilzer (Kathy), Vicky Smith (Jeff), and Cindy Boyle (Bob) all of Decatur, IL; brother Dale Price (June) of Naples, FL.; sister Joyce Troxell (Leon) of Decatur, IL; brother-in-law Bob Wilking of Decatur, IL; thirteen grandchildren and five great grandchildren also survive.
Lyle was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Virginia Wilking.
Lyle was a member of the Kimberling City United Methodist Church.
Memorial contributions may be made in Lyle’s name to Cancer Care Center of Decatur 210 W. McKinley Ave., Suite 1, Decatur, Illinois 62526.
Family will receive friends from 12:00 pm. until the time of the Memorial Service at 2:00 pm on Sunday, July 24, 2011 at Dawson & Wikoff Funeral Home in Macon. Burial will follow at Mt. Gilead Cemetery. A celebration of Lyle’s life including dinner will follow at Whit’s End in Macon, IL.

Papa Lyle,
I know you are looking over all of us now. I got to meet you about 9 years ago and you immediately made an impact on my life.
One of my first memories of you is when we celebrated Christmas at Uncle Allen and Aunt Kathy's house. You heard I was a bit of a singer and you had me and Uncle Allen in the basement singing all sorts of songs. Lots of them were songs from way before my time, but I tried my best to keep up.
And when me and Cort came to Branson to visit you made sure that I had some beer on hand. You even brought me one secretly and said, "I'm sure you are ready for one of these." :-) You know I was!
I will continue to listen to your CD of you playing and singing that you gave to us last year. I miss you already.
We had the privilege of being next-door neighbors of Lyle and Dorothy in Kimberling City for the past eight years. We first met them when we saw them out in front trying to look around the heavily wooded lot next to us . We invited them into our home so they could see the wonderful view that they would have of Tablerock Lake and the Ozarks once some of the tree were cleared away. Lyle was a wonderful neighbor and person. He loved to be out in the street talking to people and he was always laughing. He had a great laugh! He was also always willing to lend a helping hand. One time our electricity had gone out and no one else's around here had. It had been 20 hours, nobody had come out yet, and, bless his heart, here came Lyle with a very long extension cord plugged into his garage and he helped hook our two refrigerators up to electricity. He literally saved everything in our friges and freezers. He was always advising or helping with things either outside and sometimes inside our home. His advice was always good ! In the summer, if we were going to be gone, he would water our tomatoes for us and, of course, we always told him to take whatever they could use anytime. Our last memory of Lyle before they left the final time for Illinois was of him sitting on a stool out on the side of their house. Wouldn't you know - even then he was worried about some of our lattice coming off the side of our deck and wondered how we were going to fix it ! What a guy !!! We are going to miss him alot but we know it was his time to go home.
I have so many memories with Grandpa Lyle. His big hugs, great advice, moonshine beach, sitting on benches waiting for the women to get done shopping, all of the gossip, going to Uncle Johns and "helping", then just going to Kimberling City to visit. He had the best stories, and laugh. He knew how to fix everything. What a wonderful man I am so proud of you. You fought so hard. I will miss you so much until we meet again.
Family get-togethers...
a wallpapering "party" at our new home back in the 70s...
staying at Uncle John's...
listening to those Yachtsmen practice sessions...
a summer trip...
sleepovers and bedtime devotions...
many good memories.
I am so sad to read of Lyle's death, but am so grateful to have known him.

We are both very sad for your father's passing. I know that losing a parent is not easy.
I will remember listening to some great rag time courtesy of Lyle, working on Noah and Ethan's club house with Doug and Lyle, listening to great stories at Brad and Susie's wedding from Lyle, Pam and Jeff and receiving a Christmas card from Lyle and Dorothy just like I was part of the family.
Please know that our thoughts and prayers are with you all and with Lyle.

Dorothy, Jeff, Brad, Pam, Doug, Dale and all other family members:
Our deepest sympathy is extended to all of you - we hold you in our thoughts and prayers. I remember a time not long ago when Julie and I were in Florida visiting my folks. Lyle and Dorothy were scheduled to visit soon after we headed back to Kansas. I recall how much my Dad was looking forward to playing music with Lyle. I am really glad they recorded some of their tunes together over the years. We all have this to cherish.

I will always remember Lyle as my first real boss from when he hired me in high school to work at the bank. He always had an interesting story to tell and even when a mistake was made he just turned it into a learning experience. I am grateful I had the opportunity to learn from him. Dorothy, I am so sorry for your great loss. Lyle was an amazing person who had an impact on many lives.
